Honored to have Academy Award winner filmmaker, Roger Christian on our tenth episode! Roger pioneered the look of Star Wars and several years later on Alien as an art director and set dresser. He won an Oscar for Star Wars in 1977. And was nominated for Alien in 1980. He built Luke Skywalker’s original lightsaber and the well-loved astromech droid, R2D2. As a director, Roger has the distinction of making the short, “Black Angel”, the film that accompanied the Empire Strikes Back in theaters during its initial run in 1980. Roger is currently in pre-production for the feature length version of Black Angel that he has written and is preparing to direct.

It was a pleasure to hear so many compelling stories from this gracious and passionate filmmaker.

Roger Christian is also the author of Cinema Alchemist: Designing Star Wars and Alien.
